So Happy Together!: 2012

She's here! Baby R was born Saturday, February 4th at 7:15am.

To start at the beginning...

Friday evening was going normal. I had been having contractions since 38 weeks (about 1 and a half weeks prior). They were 15 min apart and a tiny bit painful. My neighbor popped in to check on us and get instructions for taking care of the dogs since she was going to watch them when I went in to labor. I got B to bed at his bedtime (8pm) and shortly after I felt a drop feeling with baby R. Contractions instantly came on stronger and went from 15min apart to 4min apart (no in between). We timed them for a while to make sure it was the real deal then our friends came over to get B and watch him while we headed to the hospital! That journey started at about 10pm and hubby made the 2 hour trip to the hospital only take 1hr and 15min LOL. I was a little concerned b/c the contractions were VERY strong and still every 3-4 minutes. We made it in time though!

They got me in and checked me at midnight. 3 centimeters! I hadn't dilated at all since 38 weeks!! The lady started to say that she would send me home and to come back when the contractions were stronger and closer together but I was already coming off the bed in pain and the contractions were still about 3min apart! So we walked the hallways. I wanted to make sure that when I went in there, they would be able to tell me that I was fully dilated and ready to go (wishful thinking I know lol, but I set my goals high). I managed to walk and have contractions for 2 hours and was just in too much pain. So we went in there and they checked me again. 5 almost 6 centimeters. We were having a baby that day! No turning back now ;)

Pain was getting intolerable and I was unable to focus or manage the pain. At 4pm they went ahead and started the epidural. She gave me control over how much I was given though which made me feel a bit better. I just went with the initial dose and wasn't going to let myself hit the button for more which turned out to be a good thing. The medication was wearing off about 6pm and I was in as much pain as I was before. They checked and I was a little over 7cm dilated. I was a little disappointed that I hadn't dilated more and considering hitting the pain med button lol... 30min later I was in so much pain that the nurse came in to check and quickly started prep the room announcing that I was fully dilated! Wow, 3cm in 30 min!! The epidural had worn off just in time for me to push. The pain was so unbearable that I pushed as hard as I could through the contractions (figured nothing could hurt more than what I was feeling already, tearing or whatever lol). It only took 2 contractions and she was born!! I held her right away... she was PRECIOUS! Hubby cut the cord and I asked him how she was facing when she came out. I was sure she was sunny side up b/c of the pain...but I was surprised to find out she was TRANSVERSE!! Hubby told me she came out facing my leg...little stinker ;) I forgive her though...she gave me the easiest pregnancy yet and has been a pretty easy baby too.

Left Occipult Transverse:

When the baby is facing out the mother's right thigh, the baby is said to be Left Occiput Transverse (LOT). This position is half way between a posterior and anterior position. It can indicate positive movements towards an anterior position if the baby has previously been known to be posterior (in either direction).

However, with a baby in the Left Occiput Transverse (LOT) position in the pelvis labor may be a bit more painful and slower.
